The diary of Arthur William Rowsell for 1917 contains what appears to be a military address for Joseph Anstey in London England indicating he had joined up (or been conscripted) into service for WWI.
A letter from his sister Blanche to Blanche's son, Reginald, dated July 19, 1936 Corner Brook: "Uncle Joe will be leaving Boston next Sunday for home. He wrote us to see him going along so it won't be long before he will be back with Grandma. I feel it a new [?] responsibility but some one has to care for her.
From Diary of Reginald Rowsell, dated August 31, 1935: "When we arrived we found that Uncle Joe, mother's brother, had come to visit us. He is a naturalized American citizen. This is the first time he has been to Newfoundland in ten years."
