Elizabeth White, 1837 - Mar 5, 1909 I have so far been unsuccessful in finding the parents of Elizabeth White. We know her father was a William White of Greenspond. Beyond that everything is speculation.
There is evidence of a William White who married a Mary Wiltshire in Bonavista, Oct. 25, 1814. (Cf: Bonavista Anglican marriages, 1807-1922), however there would be a long gap between that marriage and Elizabeth's birth. Too long to be believable. The problem is compounded when Googling anyone named White. Try it, you'll see what I mean.

Rowsell and Ansteys Every Rowsell in Newfoundland knows that they are somehow descended from four Rowsell brothers who made their way to the island from England. And that's about all we know...or I should say, that's about all I know. I think I can safely assume that I am not descended from the Rowsell fellow who was killed by the Beothuk in revenge for his having marauded their camp and killed one of them.
Ansteys too have an elusive provenance. Somewhere in England, for sure, around Poole, I've been told.

Josephs of Antigua As is the case when documenting ancestries of people descended from enslaved people, it becomes difficult to establish names, much less birth and death dates, never mind marriages. All I had to go on was word of mouth of people I know in Antigua, sketchy details, and virtually nothing firm about anything. That's to be expected. It may take more time than I have left in this world to do the digging required to flesh out or correct the record.

Elliotts and McDermids We have more history on the McDermids than on the Elliotts, maybe because they lived in North America longer than this branch of Elliotts. I would have to start digging in Ireland and/or Scotland if I wanted to go back further than we already have.

Field family I used to have a bunch of photos whose identities were never established but came bundled with the Field documents which I inherited. They were a right gallery of rogues whose photos were scanned and filed and subsequently unfindable. If I ever come across them (I do remember seeing them recently), I shall post here and hope that others may recognize them among their illustrious ancestors. |
