James (Jim) Jones passed away peacefully at the Western Memorial Hospital on September 29, 2021 at the age of 91. Jim was born October 15, 1929 on Little Bay Islands to Edgar and Blanche Jones. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Albert, sisters Violet Parsons, Ruth Gushue, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jacqueline Prole. Jim leaves to mourn his wife of 66 years, Marie (Robinson), daughter, Yvonne (Gordon) and grandson, Jonathan (Sasha) and sister, Madge Oxford, sisters-in-law, Barbara (Nick) Philpott, Dianne (Dennis) Warr, and brothers-in-law, Melvin Boone, Ted (Carolyn) Robinson and a large circle of family and friends.
Jim started his working career as a cook on a supply boat out of Little Bay Islands for Wilson Jones. They moved to Little Bay where Jim worked as a miner for Atlantic Coast Copper and later in Whalesback, Gullbridge, and Rambler Mines. While working as a miner, Jim began construction of Marie's Snack Bar and later added on Marie's Motel & Restaurant. His next big construction project was the building of his beloved boat, Bonnie Marie II. Upon retiring from the restaurant business, he and Marie moved to Pasadena and eventually, Corner Brook.
Jim was a dedicated member of the Springdale Lions Club as a Charter and Life Member. Jim was known for his ability and love of selling tickets to raise funds for local Lions Clubs in various communities in which he served. Jim was also a member of Notre Dame Masonic Lodge, No. 6. Jim took great pride in being a chauffeur for his grandson, Jon Jon, while living in Pasadena and in later years looked forward to Jon's coming back home for visits.
Jim spent a short period of time at Mountain View House in Meadows before being admitted to hospital. The family wishes to extend a big thank you to the staff of Mountain View and special thanks to Dr. Porter and the 3rd Floor staff of Western Memorial Hospital.
