  • Notes
    • The register of Protestant marriages in the District of Bedford, Quebec 1804-1879 says he was the 2nd son of John Boothe and Eleanor Rooney (Rawley?)

Moved to Ottawa Valley in 1854. He and his wife operated a single splitter and sold them roadside by night. In 1858 he obtained the contract to supply the wood for the Parliament Buildings. By 1900 he employed 1500 men in his sawmills. He evenutally built and operated three railways, managed a fleet of steamboats, and held the largest volume of timber rights in the British Empire.

There is no definitive biography on Booth, partly because he did not leave much of a paper trail, and many of his records were burned on his death at his request.

The Algerian Embassy in Canada is located in the Fleck/Paterson House in the Sandy Hill neighbourhood of Ottawa. It is located at 500 Wilbrod Street. The house was built in between 1901 and 1903 by Ottawa lumber baron J.R. Booth who built it for his daughter Gertrude and her husband Andrew Fleck.

"First time Aunt I. saw him, he was m ud to the knees. Worked with the men. Little short man. last time she saw him he was sick. Large room. Nursemaid. Way over in corner. He wore red night cap. Looked like Santa C.

The register of Protestant Marriages in BEdford, Quebec 1804-1879 mentions a Charlotte Booth marrying Samuel Hendson McElroy on 12 Oct 1857. Birth marriage for both. It says she was the daughter of John Booth, the 1st.
    • (Research):2nd oldest of 5 children to John Booth and Eleanor Rawley Booth,
      immigrant Irish farmers.
