    • From diary of brother Reginald, entry for May 15, 1943:
      I had not been home very long when Jenkins rang me and told me he had heard that Joseph Augustus Rowsell had been wounded in North Africa.

      From diary of Reginald Rowsell:
      Of the eight children of Arthur William and Blanche (Anstey) Rowsell, Joseph Augustus was the first to die.
      All Joe's brothers (6) and sisters (2) were at his funeral.
