- John H. Strong, Marsh Family Anecdotes:
Matilda (Marsh) Strong, my mother, was raised by her aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Andrew Anstey. Her widowed mother was unable to take care of her when she went to Little Bay Island to work as a housekeeper for George Wiseman, whom she later married. The Ansteys were able to give her a better education than most people of that day. Matilda became a teacher and, according to her autograph album seems to have taught in Cat Harbour (1907), Three Arms (1909), Musgrave Town (1910) and Jackson's Cove. While at Three Arms she boarded with Rebecca Strong, my father's aunt and they met while he was visiting there.
