John McLean Dead
After an illness extending over some length of time, John McLean who had been a resident of this place for a couple of years, died on Thursday, Dec 24th 1908, at the age of 73 years.
Mrs. [sic] McLean was born in Dumfrieshire, Scotland in 1835 and emigrated with his father to this country nine years after, and settled in Dundas county, near Morrisburg, and later moved to what is known as the homestead in Beckstead.
The deceased, who was well and highly spoken of had been an elder in the Presbyterian churches of Dunbar and this place for the past 35 years.
He leaves to mourn his departure a widow, five sons and three daughters viz: Edward McLean of Athens, Ont., Wm. of this place, George of North Dakota, John on the homestead, Walter of Gouverneur, N.Y. Nrs. E.P. Ross of Denholm, Alta., Mrs. S.D. Hill of Winchester, and Mary who resides with her mother.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock to the Presbyterian church where services were conducted by the Rev. Geo. Mason of Dunbar, being assisted by Rev. D. Stewart of Finch, Rev. Milligan of Toronto, Rev. Geo. Alexander of Lenore, Man., and Rev. D. McLean of Dakota.
Mrs. Elliott and daughter of Kemptville [probably Elspeth Elliott and one of her daughters Ella Maude or Margaret Ann - RNE] besides many relatives and friends from Morrisburg and other places were present at the funeral.
The pall bearers were the four sons of the deceased.
Every sympathy is expressed for the bereaved in their hour of trial.
