From files of Dr. Keith Matthews: "1759, Thomas Tizard ships items such as seals, otter, foxes, beaver, marten, etc., Newfoundland to Poole, for Moses Hooper, in the vessel 'Triton', Thomas Anstey, Captain. In November, 1759, Captain Thomas Anstey arrived in Poole from Newfoundland, in the vessel 'Triton', carrying goods for several individuals."
From Milt Anstey: Charles Anstey was probably the first Anstey resident at Twillingate, having been there as early as the 1760's. I consider Thomas Anstey (1769-1847) of Twillingate to have been a son of Charles Anstey. Most or all of the Ansteys of Notre Dame Bay descended from Thomas Anstey (1769-1847).
