• Notes

  She was a midwife for Rowsell's Island and area, travelling by boat, dog and sled, horse and sled and showshoes. 1921 Census says she was born at Shoe Cove as does Olive Upshall in an article entitled "Midwife of Leading Tickles" in the book "Savour of Things Past". I had perviously had her birth place as King's Cove and birthdate as Aug 1875, Headstone reads: "In loving memory of Frances, beloved wife of Israel A. Rowsell Died May 14th 1945 aged 69 years." Viewed Summer 2004 at Leading Tickles Old Methodist Cemetery.
