From anonymous poster in Facebook group Rowsells of Newfoundland: "John was likely a close relative of the original George Rousell b. 1726, original N.D.Bay Henry Rousell (said to be father of George), and Thomas Rowsell who was beheaded by the Beothucks in 1789. Entries from Slade Ledgers for 1794 and 1795 state that son John Rousal charged goods to the account of his father. This could possibly be John of Halls Bay who married Emma."
Storey: Thomas Rowsell was killed by Indians. RNR: Had a brother, James?, who was killed by Indians at South Brook, Hall's Bay. LR: born ca.1773. Died Nov 4, 1861, L.T. LR: BIble gives a DOB of Oct 31 1799 for a Thomas Rowsell who died at L.T. in 1876 at age 78.
The Church of England register for Twillingate 1816 - 1824 show adult baptisms for Thomas, George, William and Joseph Rowsell on 27 August 1821. It also shows the baptism of four children to John and Amy Rowsell on the same date. These children were James, Henry, Sarah and Mary. If Amy and Emma are the same person, then these likely are the baptisms for the children of John and Emma that are recorded in the Halls Bay Rowsell Bible.

(Ships And Seafarers of Atlantic Canada) Calvin Evans, researcher of Botwood, records John Rowsell, Jr. built the Brothers in 1831 at Halls Bay. He and his father John Rowsell Sr. were co-owners. Residence given as Halls Bay.

In the name of God Amen, I John Rowsell of Halls Bay in the Northern District in the Island of Newfoundland Planter, being of sound mind but of advanced age do make this my last will and testament that is to say,
First I give and bequeath to my sons Henry and James Rowsell jointly and equally my fishing establishment situate in Halls Bay aforesaid together with my garden outbuildings and appurtenances thereunto belonging also all my nets seines boats traps guns and household furniture in short whatever I may be possessed of in Halls Bay at the time of my death.
Secondly, As to whatever monies I may be possessed of or have any just right or claim to at the time of my death I give and bequeath the amount thereof jointly and equally to my sons Thomas, William, John and Joseph Rowsell. And I appoint my sons William and Henry Rowsell aforesaid executors to this my last will and testament And I hereby disannul and revoke every other will & wills at any time heretofore made by me ratifying and confirming this to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fourth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty. John Rowsell (LS)
