- Harold Greer came to Chesterville in 1932 and, in 1935, he brought his bride to an apartment in half of the Fisher Block in which he also ran a store and delivered bred for the Canada Bread Company.
In 1935 they bought [a] lot next to the Texaco garage from Mrs. C.J. Soule (for $175). There they built a two-storey house which was burned to the ground in a941. The family escaped in night attire from the burning building. They then lived in an apartment over Lannin's garage until their new home was built.
Harold gave up the store and went into the trucking business with a modest beginning with the CPR express delivery, including the mail delivery to the Post Office. This led to general trucking and with his PCV licence (1951), he trucked for Nestle's, Domtar and furniture moving. When he retired, he had a fleet of seven trailers and three tractors, selling out to Peter Konick of Finch.
Wilma, his wife, worked with him as secretary, was Past President of the W.I. St. Andrew's Ladies' Aid, Women's Missionary Society, played the organ in church for 30 years and for 21 years was secretary of Signet Chapter No. 272, Finch.
Their son, Harry, has his own trailer and tractor and hauls for Pure Spring Company, Ottawa.
