  • Notes
    • Married on 1 Jan 1794 in Harbour Grace to John Gosse. (Source: D. Hogge)

It would seem that Jane had a sister, Eliza, based on the contents of Eliza's will (see below). I have no other evidence of Eliza.

      Will of Eliza Pike
from Newfoundland will books volume 1 pages 81 & 82 probate year 1829

      In the Estate of
      Eliza Pike deceased.

In the Name of God, Amen, I, Eliza Pike of Carbonear in the Island of Newfoundland, but now about to leave this said place to reside at Poole, Spinster, being of perfect health of body and of perfect mind and memory of my body, do make and ordain this my last will and testament: That is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:
First. I give and bequeath to John Pike my well beloved nephew, son of my well beloved brother Francis Pike all my property in the Island of Newfoundland particularly my landed property, and outstanding debts: the said property to be kept in trust by his said father during his natural life free of rent or interest, and in case of the death of my said nephew before his said father then it is to be kept for his next eldest brother and in case of leaving no brother, to his eldest sister. Also, I give to my well beloved nieces Sarah Gosse and Jane Elizabeth Gosse daughters of my late sister Jane, and John Gosse my brother in law, all my wearing apparel, my plate, and all my personall property that may be with me at my decease, to be equally and justly divided between them.
I hereby constitute and appoint my particular friends Robert Puck and William W. Bemister both at present of Carbonear, Merchants, to be my lawfull and sole executors. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, Bequests and executors by me in any wise before named, willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other, to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fifth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen. Eliza Pike (LS)
Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Eliza Pike, as her last will and testament, in the presence of us who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names.
