  • Notes
    • Known as Joseph (Hugh) Booth in some trees.

An entry for a James Booth, son of Hugh and Jane, was found in the Ontario Marriage Registration records. (see below). However, if true, this would mean that he was born in 1839 between Robert (1837) and Leander (1840). Is this possible? All the rest of their children are at least two years apart.

24/12 (Leeds & Grenville): James BOOTH, 33, malster, Ireland, Dunham Quebec, s/o Hugh & Jane, married Grace COWAN, 26, Ottawa, same, d/o John & Catherine, witn: Henry & Mary COWAN of Ottawa, 22 Aug 1872 at Prescott

The entry for the baptism of son Leander says that he is the 4th son of Hugh and Jane. This lends credence to the record of James as a son between Robert and Leander.

The fact that the death registration notice for Hugh says that James Booth, son, was a witness, proves that he did have a son James.

      1861 Census lists family as:
      Hugh, age 60, born Ireland
      Jane, age 50, born Ireland
      Robert, age 24, born Ireland

      Joseph, age 13, born Canada
      Margrit, age 11, born Canada
      Mary, age 18, born Canada
