William A. Rowsell stated that Israel's headstone reads: "Away from Friends and Kindred All, I Calmly Await My Call When that Call Comes I hope to with Christ in Endless Felicity."
"In Memory of Isreal Rowsell who departed this life 13th Aug 1863 aged 21 years. Far from friends and relations, I am left alone to wait my call. When that call comes I hope to see all my friends in endless glory." Inscription from a headstone at Dumplin Island, Labrador taken from "THEM DAYS" Vol. 23 no.4 Summer 1998.
Diary of AW Rowsell, entry for Sept 28th 1915 : "We were ashore on Dumplin Island. Saw poor Uncle Israel Rowsell's grave who died here in the summer of 1863, Aug 13th. Aged 21 years."
