| 615 | DAWE, Olive Florence - 93, of New Minas, NS passed away March 17, 2001 in the Wolfville Nursing Home, Wolfville, NS. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Ann (Taylor) Field. She graduated from Memorial University, Newfoundland (Class of 25) and went on to Dalhousie University, Halifax where she graduated in 1929. She taught school in Buchans, Newfoundland for many years and she was a former District Commissioner of The Girl Guides Of Canada in Newfoundland. She was a member of the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. She is survived by her husband, William A. Wolfville; a niece, Norma Elliott, Ottawa. She was predeceased by sisters, Ruby, May, Trixie and Lorna. A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001 from the H. C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Kentville. Reverend Father John Scott officiating. Cremation followed. Memorial donations may be made to the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. Born in Port De Grave, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Morgan) Dawe. He worked as an office manager with Asarco in Buchans, Newfoundland for 40 years. In 1976 he and his wife moved to New Minas and spent their winter months in Florida. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, New Minas; the Gyro Club, and the St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. He is survived by nieces: Lorraine MacLaughlin and Florence Pippy, both of St. John's; Jean Boyd, Brantford, Ont.; Norma Elliott, Ottawa, Ont.; nephew Reg Elford, Bedford. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Olive Field; brother Harold; sisters: Winnie and Ella. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 both in the H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Kentville. Father John Scott officiating. Interment in the Anglican Church Cemetery, Port De Grave, Nfld. at a later date. | 635 | Dennis Cross reports a sixth son, Capt. George Field, who was lost at sea. This was finally confirmed Sept 2004 with the finding of the will of Martha Field, wife of Capt. George Field. See notes under Martha Field. Note No baptism records were found for any of Capt George's children. Given George died in 1886 aged 79 yrs he is definitely the oldest & only FIELD living in the Trinity area in the early to mid 1800's. They had three children: George, Walter, and Elizabeth Frances. Their daughter Elizabeth Frances (AKA Bessie Fanny) Abbott married Appleton Cleeves Stroud, they were my Grandparents. They had 9 children: Delphine, Shirley (my Mother), David, Daniel, Edward, Cora, Catherine (Kate), Nita, and Robert . And she also raised 5 step children. A record was found at Rooms showing that Walter Bernardo Rowsell enlisted in the First Newfoundland Regiment on Aug 13, 1917, and reported his father was Israel Rowsell. He was 19 years 8 months old at that time. Walter Bernardo Rowsell is listed in the Canadian Great War Project (https://canadiangreatwarproject.com/person.php?pid=130126) where his cause of death is not given, but it is assumed he died in the war. «b»Regimental number: «/b»2533 «b» Final Rank: «/b»Private (1st Battalion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment) «b» Rank detail«/b» Private, 1st Battalion, Royal Newfoundland Regiment, Newfoundland Infantry (British Army). A letter received by Reg from Ruby on May 23 mentions that she was spending time with her father so obviously he was not buried on May 1.
