Barbour, Samuel (I3198)

554 Date of birth that I found for Alfred is 1880 but that's after his children were born so is incorrect. Webber, Alfred (I429)

555 Date of death from St. James Anglican Cemetery records, Carbonear. Saunders, Jane (I1754)

556 Date of death has no source (unless I got it from Ed Barbour's wall chart).

However, I found an entry in Reg Rowsell's diary for August 25, 1947 as follows: Had a 'phone call from St. John's - cousin Theresa Barbour - saying that My Aunt Minnie Barbour (Mrs. Pierce Barbour and sister of Theresa) died today. Aunt Minnie is my father's younger sister.

She appears to have also had a daughter Minnie (or perhaps a granddaughter). Reg Rowsell's diary in entry for Sept. 6, 1947 states: Minnie Barbour came from St. John's to visit us for the weekend.
Rowsell, Minnie Louisa (I108)

557 Dates (1807-1900) were what I got from RNR's papers. Dates 1817-1910 from David Anstey. Death date from Nfld death registers at St. John's Other notes I have give dates: 1807-1900 (source unknown) William Young's diary (from Jill Marshall) has born bd 1820. Lived in Bluff Head Cove, Purcell's Harbour. source: Jill Marshall

From the Little Bay Islands United Church Magazine (1942 issue, history of LBI) he moved to LBI c 1851/1852: the magazine article said there were 14 children. Don Moore (Zeke848@cs.com) says there were 10 children (Virtue, George, Esther, Lydia, Priscilla, Susannah, Richard, Peter, Thomas, and Henry Charles, his gf). Don Moore also noted that both Hannah and William was bc 1820). From church records, Hannah Wiseman was baptized May 14 1823 Tizzards Hr, the daughter of Philip Wiseman & Virtue UNK.

May have been the William Anstey who mastered the vessel Garfield (42 tons) with 9 men and 1 woman aboard when it cleared through Twilligate customs house in July 1888 for the cod fishery. Supplier: E. DUDER. Source: Twillingate Sun - 1888 July 28, 1888.

From Reg Rowsell's diary, written at Hooping Harbour, July 29, 1929:
I went visiting in the afternoon but didn't finish all my visiting until six o'clock this evening Saturday 3/8/29. Last evening I got another surprise. Mrs. Randell the woman with whom I stay gave me a five D. gold piece. God was again wonderfully good to me. I cannot thank him for the half. Mrs. Randell is relation to me. Mrs. Randell's mother's sister was married to William Anstey, my great grand father. I met today a Mr. George Burton who claims to be related to me. Says he and I are third cousins. And met a Mr. Ben Rideout who is also my third cousin.

In RnR's diary for Little Bay Islands, Jan 28, 1941:
Living at the Island when Mr. Grimes arrived [in 1854] were William Mersell & Philip Wiseman (at Mersell's Cove), Wm. Anstey (my great grandfather) and John Locke (these two families lived at Anstey's Cove).

From an article in the Evening Telegram, May 4, 1970, entitled "The first settlers in Green Bay"
"Thomas Grimes, who was 94 years old in 1940, told how he came to Little Bay Island in 1854. He said he had already been there several winters with his father before the family followed them. When Grimes arrived, he found the following families: Campbells, George Mitchell, Thomas Tuffin, George Tucker, William Richmond, James Wiseman, his son Willie Wiseman, and John Wellman. All were located at Mursell's Cove. William Anstey and John Locke lived at Anstey's Cove while John Marshall and Jerry Roberts lived in Ben Batt's Cove."
