359 Born August 14, 1841 (source: her headstone, Leading Tickles, Methodist cemetery) Married at Leading Tickles, Notre Dame Bay, Nov 11, 1865. She was the sister of the man (Richard Penney) who married her own husband's sister, Jane.

Headstone reads: "In loving memory of Mary Jane beloved wife of Mark Rowsell born Aug 14th 1841 Died May 26th 1904. Fond and loving mother at home with Jesus. Onlyl good night beloved not [goodbye?]. A little while and all [?] in Hallowed Union [?]. Good night. Until we meet again ... Good night." Viewed Summer 2004 at Leading Tickles, Old Methodist Cemetery.

Obviously Mary Jane had a brother based on the following excerpt from Diary of Reg Rowsell:
I am staying with Mr. Mark W. Penney who is a first cousin to my father. His father was a brother to my father's mother.

According to the 1921 Census, Mary Jane and her sister Susie were stepdaughters of Thomas Penny. Their surname at birth was Rideout. I am thinking now (2023) that this is a different Mary Jane.

The Birthday Book lists her DOB as Aug 18 1841
