A quiet but very pretty wedding took place on Monday night at 6:30 at Methodist Church, when Miss Elsie PIKE, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John PIKE, was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Capt. Sidney T. JONES, son of Mr. And Mrs. George JONES, M.H.A. by the Rev. Wm. HARRIS. The bride was charmingly attired in blue silk with hat to match. She was attended by her sister, Miss Belle PIKE. The groom was supported by the brides brother, while Mr. James TITFORD acted as father giver. After the ceremony they motored to the home of the bride's parents, where a supper was served in the presence of a few friends, and a very happy evening was spent by all. The bride was the recipient of many valuable and useful presents, amongst them being a purse of gold from the Girl Guides of which she was a member. Mr. and Mrs. JONES left by Wednesday morning's train for St. John's, there to connect with the Prospero enroute to their future home, Little Bay Islands. Barbara Pederson reported that William died at age 43 on December 22, 1903 and was buried at Three Arms. William was born at Three Arms. Sarah was born and died at Jackson's Cove. Their headstone is at Jackson's Cove. His obituary (source unknown) : Dear Greeting, Just a few lines to say that death has presently paid us a visit, and has taken from our ranks a dear brother in the person of William Strong. He was one who was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and we are also pleased to say that his home was always open to the Methodist minister whenever he came that way. His sickness, which was unto death, did not last but a few days, but the many friends who visited him and heard his dying testimony, felt confident that his feet were firmly fixed upon the Rock of Ages. The obsequies were largely attended by friends from Three Arms, South West Arm and Nipper's Harbour, and a very appropriate sermon was delivered by the Rev. W. J. Morris from the words, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God". He leaves a wife and five children to mourn their sad loss. To the bereaved we extend our deepest sympathy. The deceased died at Jackson's Cove December 19th, 1903. P. S. At the grave was sung the lines: "At the margin of the river Lay we every burden down Grace our spirits will deliver And provide a robe and crown". | Strong, William Joseph Armstrong (I350)

| 1638 | Son of ALBERT MITCHELL and MARY BROWN Story has it :- (Source - Susan Mitchell) John was a fisherman who had his quota of fish, he gave it to Crosby fish merchants who in return were supposed to exchange it for a parcel of food . For some reason this did not happen and John and Hettie starved to death. A Tragedy Come gather round me fisherfolk. And listen unto me. And I will tell to you a tale of want and misery A tale to make your hearts be sad. To make your eyes go wet. Relating how John Mitchell and his wife had met their death They found them in a squalid shack. Their eiderdown a sail. Their medicine some epsom salts. Twas never known to fail. But daily they grew weak and gaunt. Till but the bones and skin. Remained a tribute to the sole. And a merchants medicine. Yet day by day in bitter frost. They fought their fight for life. So they could ease their childrens plights. John Mitchell and his wife. But flesh and blood cannot survive. On six cents dole per day. And death to them was merciful. They slept in hallowed clay. Good people as you sleep tonight. Remember in your prayers. John Mitchell and his faithful wife. And the hardship that was theirs. And if you charity be touched. And you would aid the poor. I need not tell you where they are. You'll find them at your door. By Robert Byrnes | Mitchell, John (I2956)
